“House-husband”: is a photographic series that reflects my own experience in the role of a house-husband.
The project was born three months after the birth of my second boy, when my wife returned to work from maternity leave. Given the high cost of childcare, and considering that my income was lower than her, it seemed obvious that I should be the one who cares for the kids’ home.
Being permanently present in the world of early childhood made me move from an institutional paternity to a much more relational paternity; An inner revolution for me, but also for my wife.
During the day, my camera does not leave the tripod, it was tracking this choice of life. Me and the boys were making our everyday lives.
House-husband, playing the man of the twenty-first century, having a real profession but without pay, nor recognition… Is it an isolation, or a fulfillment? It is definitely an experience that runs counter to the traditional model, but it may also be an excellent indicator of nowadays gender relations.
